Abstract

University Centroids. This dataset contains points representing center locations of universities, created as part of the DC Geographic Information System (DC GIS) for the D.C. Office of the Chief Technology Officer (OCTO) and participating D.C. government agencies.

All DC GIS data is stored and exported in Maryland State Plane coordinates NAD 83 meters.

METADATA CONTENT IS IN PROCESS OF VALIDATION AND SUBJECT TO CHANGE.

Purpose

This data is used for the planning and management of Washington, D.C. by local government agencies.

GIS Data Coordinator in D.C. A centroid for each university campus was heads-up digitized from the 1995 orthophotographs. Attribute data was provided by university websites. The square suffix lot attribute (if appropriate) was generated through comparison of the university with GIS data from the DC Office of Tax and Revenue. Planimetrics were created at a scale of 1:1,000. This means that a well defined feature falls within two feet of true position. All DC GIS data is stored and exported in Maryland State Plane coordinates NAD 83 meters.

Field research was used to supplement and clarify source information.
	* Extended length of NAME fied to 75 from 50 * Reviewed Names of Schools (spellling etc) * Standardized name to 'George Washington University at Mount Vernon College' (both Pt and Ply) * Made sure number of records in UniversPt = UnivesityPly * Updated GWU & Georgetown polygons * Added over a a dozen new universities to the file
