Abstract

This dataset displays a directory that lists the tobacco product manufacturers, with brand families and brand names, that have provided current and accurate certifications to the District of Columbia in accordance with DC Official Code § 7-1801.02 (2001) and the Tobacco Product Manufacturer Reserve Fund Complementary Procedures Act of 2004 ("Act"). The mission of the Office of the Chief Financial Officer (OCFO) is to enhance the fiscal and financial stability, accountability and integrity of the Government of the District of Columbia. This directory lists the tobacco product manufacturers, with brand families and brand names, that have provided current and accurate certifications to the District of Columbia in accordance with DC Official Code § 7-1801.02 (2001) and the Tobacco Product Manufacturer Reserve Fund Complementary Procedures Act of 2004 ("Act"). Only cigarettes or "roll-your-own" tobacco belonging to brand families listed in this directory may be stamped, offered, or possessed for sale in the District of Columbia. Any cigarettes or "roll-your-own" tobacco that have been sold, offered or possessed for sale, or imported for personal consumption in the District of Columbia while not included in this directory will be deemed contraband and subject to seizure and forfeiture as provided in section 7(b) of the Act. It is unlawful to affix a stamp to a package or other container of cigarettes of a tobacco product manufacturer or brand family not included in this directory or to sell, offer, or possess for sale, or import for personal consumption in the District of Columbia, cigarettes or "roll-your-own" tobacco of a tobacco product manufacturer or brand family not included in this directory. Purpose

This dataset has been created by Citywide Data Warehouse program. The mission of the Citywide Data Warehouse is to provide timely and accurate information for decision-making; support executive and agency management in the implementation of business processes which will guarantee access to useful and well-organized information for DC Government workers, non-governmental organizations, and the public.

Attributes

• Manufacturer 
  The name of a tobacco product manufacturer that sells cigarettes or roll-your-own tobacco within the District of Columbia, whether directly or through any distributor, retailer, or similar intermediary.
• PM/NPM 
  Refers to "Participating Manufacturer" and "Non-participating Manufacturer. A Participating Manufacturer is any Tobacco Product Manufacturer that has become a Participating Manufacturer pursuant to Section II(jj) of the Master Settlement Agreement and all amendments to it. A Non-participating Manufacturer is any Tobacco Product Manufacturer that is not a Participating Manufacturer.
• Brand Family 
  Refers to all styles of cigarettes sold under the same trademark and differentiated from one another by additional modifiers or descriptors, including "menthol," "lights," "kings," and "100s," and includes any brand name (alone or in conjunction with any other word), trademark, logo, symbol, motto, selling message, recognizable pattern of colors, or any other indicia of product identification identical or similar to, or identifiable with, a previously known brand of cigarettes.
